Horse Training For The Trail
More and more people seem to be training their trail horses to go plowing mindlessly thru all sorts of obstacles rather than permitting the horse to show some of his natural good sense in avoiding those things which might prove dangerous to him. Who wants a horse that will dive into water without first trying to find out how deep it is? One show I went to had an obstacle consisting of a narrow aisle of poles, between which they set down several cardboard dress boxes! I never found out whether the horse was supposed to step on or over the boxes. Some stepped over, as mine did-which made sense I thought-and some stepped on them without batting an eyelash.
As for the concept of changing hands on the reins for the gate obstacle, I feel this should not be considered a fault. When you go out on a real trail ride, do you always know which way a gate is going to open? No! And if you come to one that opens the “wrong” way for the hand you are using, what do you do? You change hands and use the one most convenient.
Leaving the beaten path can be one of the great pleasures of riding a horse. I would like to suggest that common sense and preparation should guide us in developing these training programs.
Here’s hoping that a specific set of rules will be set up to eliminate the uncertainty and inefficiency of trail riding classes so that there will be trail classes that really do present obstacles that truly simulate the hazards found on a trail.

I have been an Edmonton Plumber for the last 19 years, and the most common response I get from clients is “Why do plumbers charge so much?” This article is meant to explain for you why we as plumbers charge what we charge. Most of what I am writing about will be based on prices in Canada and with the Canadian dollar, but you will get the idea of where the costs of doing business comes from. I hope that after reading this you feel better paying a higher price then going with a low ball handyman that may not be in you and your families best interests at hand, and you may not want to be a diy plumber.
When I first started my Edmonton Plumbing company I failed miserably at the whole price objective thing. I needed work and would low ball other plumbers to get the jobs. Often the clients that did hire me were not the best clients, and many times they were the cheapest people in the city. Which means that they wanted the job for a low price and wanted all extras for free. This almost put my company into bankruptcy, which is not good for me, or for my clients.
In Edmonton the average plumber charges 150-185 to come to the door, then 85-92 per hour for every hour after that. If you have a very small job that only takes a half hour you could expect a bill for 192.50 to 231. This price is high, but for good reason. The employee that comes to your house gets paid for his or her time. As well as the costs for the van or truck to get there. The costs for the plumbing company for that half hour of work is as follows:

As you can see this leaves about 13.03 for profit. Can you see now that there is a lot more to running a business then what someone might think. Yes, there are some plumbers that work out of their homes, have no real advertising costs, and do everything for themselves. These companies might make more per billable hour, but they have a lot more non billable hours to work. For instance when I first started I worked about 45 billable hours per week, and about 20 non billable hours each week. Not counting any overhead if I charged 85 per hour for 45 hours but worked 65 hours then my real hourly rate was only 58.85. Which when you think about the fact that I could work for any plumbing company in the city and make between 41-47 per hour the risk reward ratio is not as high as what you may have thought. One other thing I have not mentioned is that there are many clients out there that rip off the people that work for them. These are called losses.
After reading this you might think why would anyone want to do this? There is a lot of enjoyment that goes along with building your own company. And as you build you do make more money, plus when you are ready you can sell off the company for a capital gain.

Health Hazards of Diesel Exhaust
The report issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Bureau of the Montana Department of Labor and Industry is a more detailed report than the previous one by the State of California on the hazards of diesel exhaust. This report goes into more detail on diesel exhaust exposure and ways to prevent such exposure. There were also animal studies conducted and their findings reported.
Diesel engines have become the most widely used portable power source in recent years. This had caused increased exposure to diesel fumes and exhaust more prevalent to workers and pedestrians alike because of the wide spread use of diesel engines in the transportation sector of our economy.
Diesel exhaust has been shown to contain 20 to 100 times more fine particles than exhaust produced from a comparable size gasoline engine. The fine particles carry with them the known cancer causing chemicals polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. The noxious gases produced are also damaging to humans and the surrounding environment. These include nitrous oxides, nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, benzene, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
Your AFG Grant money may be used to install Diesel Exhaust Filters on all of your fire trucks and diesel apparatus. This will help improve the health and safety of your fire fighters.

Latest Skate Shoe Designs From DC Shoe Co.
Spring is almost here and that means that the newest lines in skate shoes and apparel will soon be available in the shops. This season should be a very interesting time, as lots of fashion lines have had to limit the number of different lines and products they are producing to cut back on costs. DC skate shoes are one of the best skate clothes brands, so I will soon be heading down to my local extreme sports shop to try on some DC Skate Shoes in Cheltenham and the new Spring range looks set to be a hit.
This season’s 2009 Spring range of DC skate shoes sees an eclectic mix of styles. You have the traditional style that the DC Shoe Co. has been famous for since they changed their name from Droors. These are fairly basic in design with a limited amount of colours, usually with a black or white solid base colour and the DC emblem on the outside of the trainer.
